GWS participates in German-Algerian Energy Partnership
The German-Algerian Energy Partnership has been initiated between the German Ministry of Economics, Social Affairs and Energy and the Algerian Energy Ministry. As important part of this partnership, the first German-Algerian Energy Day served as occasion to discuss latest strategies, instruments, and development path towards a sustainable energy future, in Algeria, Germany and beyond. The conference aimed at the following questions: Which policy tools most effectively spur the development of renewable energies? What cost to expect for grid integration of renewables? How to manage structural change that the energy transition brings along, in a way that is benefiting society and economy at once? Ulrike Lehr from GWS gave the keynote from the German side for the panel on economic opportunities in the energy transition. Her address focused on experiences from studies on the issues of employment from renewable energy and energy efficiency in Germany and in the MENA region. The German-Algerian Energy Day was followed by a workshop, where Ulrike Lehr introduced a study GWS will be leading on employment and value creation from renewable energy in Algeria. The study had its kick-off meeting the next day and will be finished by end of September 2018.
