Input-Output Workshop special 2019

Conference proceedings of the 11th I-O Workshop 2019 special can be downloaded here.

The concept of sustainable development, introduced in the so-called Brundtland Report (1987), now influences the decisions of private households, businesses and public institutions. Sustainable development requires the achievement of objectives in at least three dimensions (environmental, economic, social) at global, national and regional levels. Input-output analysis can be used to better understand challenges and solutions, for example through the following applications:

  • Calculation of "ecological footprints"
  • Analysis of embodied emissions in exports and imports
  • Studies of the economic impacts of climate change
  • Analyses of employment effects of investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • Studies on the distribution effects of environmental policy measures

In this workshop, these and other applications of input-output analysis for sustainable development issues were discussed.
