INFORUM World Conference 2016

The GWS was host of the 24th World INFORUM-Conference from 29 August until 2 September 2016. Economists from Chile, China, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Poland, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, the USA and Germany met to present and discuss their latest research results concerning the advance in empirical input-output modeling, analysis and data development techniques. It was an excellent opportunity to discuss applications of INFORUM models and exchange new ideas.

A special session to celebrate the 20 anniversary of GWS was held on Tuesday. Prof. Dr. Bernd Meyer, founder of GWS, gave an overview of the companies` history, which is closely connected with its INFORUM membership. Dr. Christian Lutz, current managing director of the Institute of Economic Structures Research (GWS mbH) looked into the future. In this context, the future cooperation within the INFORUM group and the possibilities to strengthen the tights in between the member institutes were also discussed.

Following a good old INFORUM tradition, the conference members participated in two excursions – an afternoon trip on Wednesday to the Museumsdorf Cloppenburg, an open air museum with many buildings from former centuries, and a day trip to Bremen und Bremerhaven on the Saturday following the official conference.

We would like to thank all participants for making their way to Osnabrück, joining the conference and especially for the fruitful discussions. Hope to see you all next year in Riga!
